Vietnam: Development Experts Highlight Domestic Resources As Key to Reach SDGs

Recently at a forum, Professor Jonathan Pincus, UNDP Senior International Economist, highlighted the importance of domestic resource mobilization to increase long-term finance for productive investment in Vietnam.
Excise taxation on alcohol is one such policy solution that can both reduce alcohol harm and related costs and generate more revenue for development in Vietnam. The country currently does not employ excise taxes despite the heavy alcohol burden and the substantial potential.
