South Africa Plans to Improve Alcohol Law

Posted on November 02, 2022 in Africa, Africa

The Liquor Amendment Bill of 2016 has been on hold since 2018. The Bill includes WHO-recommended alcohol policy improvements to prevent and reduce alcohol harm. The Department of Trade, Industry, and Competition is now saying they plan to reintroduce the bill to parliament after making improvements.
Communities are concerned that this could unnecessarily delay the process of adopting the Bill and further increase alcohol harms in South Africa.
