Big Alcohol Exploits India-UK Trade Agreement to Reduce Tariffs, Increase Profits

Movendi International reported back in February that Big Alcohol will seek to slash India’s customs duty on imported alcohol products through the free trade agreement (FTA) with the United Kingdom (UK). Now alcohol industry lobby group International Spirits and Wines Association of India (ISWAI) has made their demands known. Big Alcohol demands an immediate 75% slashing of customs duty for imported alcohol products with an eventual reduction to 30% over a three-year period. If the demand becomes policy people and communities in India will be flooded with imported and cheaply available alcohol.
