Why Alcohol Use Is Rising during the Coronavirus Pandemic

A study published in the Alcohol and Alcoholism Journal by Oksanen and colleagues explored people’s alcohol use early on in the coronavirus pandemic. It found that 25.37% participants increased their alcohol intake. Over half of those who increased their intake were consuming alcohol in heavy amounts.
The authors suggest psychological stressors increase the risk of heavy alcohol use during the pandemic.
