Germany: Government Alcohol Policy Advisor Calls for Alcohol Policy Paradigm Shift

Renewing his calls for alcohol policy improvements from a year ago, Burkhard Blienert, Commissioner for Addiction Issues of the German Federal Government, has called for a paradigm shift for alcohol policy in Germany. The government’s top official dealing alcohol policy emphasized the high levels of alcohol use, the resulting magnitude of alcohol harm, and the fact that Germany has done poorly in protecting the people from alcohol harm. A new resolve and commitment is emerging.
