EU Commission’s World Cancer Day Event Highlights Importance of Tackling Alcohol as Serious Carcinogen

Three years after the adoption of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, Stella Kyriakides, European Commissioner for Health and Food Safety, convened a high-level event in commemoration of World Cancer Day. The event reinvigorated the need to tackle alcohol as major cause of cancer and alcohol policy as significant cancer prevention intervention. Since the launch of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the alcohol industry has attacked cancer prevention efforts in the European Commission and in the European Parliament.
