Independent Retailers Suppport Alcohol Minimum Unit Pricing in Northern Ireland

While the minimum unit pricing (MUP) policy in the Republic of Ireland came into force in January 2022, neighboring Northern Ireland is yet to implement the policy in their jurisdiction. Independent retailers on both sides of the border are in favor of the MUP policy since it can both level the playing field between big supermarkets and small retailers and quell cross-border trade issues. Implementing the MUP can significantly alleviate the heavy alcohol burden in Northern Ireland and protect people and communities from alcohol harm.
