On June 24, 2025, Kenya adopted its first “National Policy on the Prevention of Alcohol, Drugs, and Substance Use,” ending years of delay caused by alcohol industry interference.
Developed through nationwide consultations led by NACADA, the policy sets out a comprehensive framework to prevent and reduce harm, especially among Kenya’s youth.
It includes bans on alcohol advertising targeting youth, sales near schools and places of worship, and plans for rehabilitation centers in every county.
The new policy marks a decisive step toward coordinated, prevention-focused public health action.
