Exposed: EU Invites Big Alcohol, Offers Funding to Interfere in South Africa’s Alcohol Policy Development

The delegation of the European Union to South Africa has invited major alcohol industry front groups and alcohol producers in Europe to jointly interfere in the development of alcohol policy solutions by the South African government.
The issue was first brought to public attention by the European Alcohol Policy Alliance (Eurocare).
The products and practices of the alcohol industry in South Africa are causing massive harm. These alcohol problems are of such magnitude that the government had decided three times during the coronavirus crisis to ban the sale of alcohol temporarily – a measures that showed substantial reductions in alcohol harm.
